1-chloro-3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene; CAS No.: 328-72-3; 1-chloro-3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene. PROPERTIES: This chlorinated trifluoromethyl-substituted aromatic compound features molecular formula C?H?ClF? with molecular weight 231.57 g/mol. It exists as a colorless liquid. Soluble in non-polar solvents like hexanes and dichloromethane. Boiling point approximately 110-115 C. Exhibits IR absorption for C-Cl (~600-500 cm??) and C-F (~1300-1100 cm??). Thermogravimetric analysis indicates decomposition above 150 C under nitrogen. Store at 2-8 C in sealed containers. May cause severe skin burns and eye damage. APPLICATIONS: As a trifluoromethyl-substituted benzene, 1-chloro-3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene is used in agrochemical synthesis. The chloro and trifluoromethyl groups provide valuable directing effects for further functionalization. Also used in materials science as monomer for preparing polyaryl ethers with enhanced flame retardancy. In pharmaceutical development, it functions as building block in the synthesis of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, where the trifluoromethyl groups contribute to hydrophobic interactions.
